The researchers from Imperial College London analysed bloodstream samples from 1,380 women of various age groups, 640 of whom went on to build up breast cancer. Plus they found a strong link between breast cancer risk and molecular modification of a single gene called ATM, which is available on white bloodstream cells. They then looked for evidence of that which was causing this change. Co-ordinated by Professor Adrian Podoleanu, it operates out of two laboratories. Other members of the team include Professor David Jackson, Dr John Rogers, a former Kent PhD college student right now the director of OCT Analysis at OTI and lecturer George Dobre.
